The New Vintage

MEET THE DESIGNERS

Here's just a taster of just some of the fantastic creative talent involved in the New Vintage Collective:

Lucy Stephens
A graphic designer and illustrator living and working in Brixton she is a type fanatic, so the majority of her prints involve the written word in some form or another. When she isn’t creating work for her online shop, she is a freelance book cover designer and illustrator who works for most of the major publishing houses in London.

Birds in Hats
"I'm Alice, I've just graduated so naturally I work in a bar. When I'm not working I'm drawing all the strange things that come into my head, the most popular of which is my 'Birds in Hats' series. It is simply an ever growing collection of different birds wearing different hats and I put them on greetings cards, postcards and prints! I also make very good cupcakes."

Rachel Clowes
I am a textile designer with a passion for sustainability. I work full time and am studying part-time for an MA in Fashion and the Environment at LCF. My designs combine traditional elements with newer technology - delicate lace-inspired necklaces laser cut from eco-felt (made from recycled plastic bottles). I like to create necklaces that are suitable for multiple occasions and allow the wearer to make the best use of their existing clothes. My large necklaces make a statement at a party when worn with a strapless dress, can be used to 'dress-up' a plain dress for a meal out or can be worn over a jumper during the day. I enjoy being able to make something new out of waste plastic, showing sustainable textiles can be creative and beautiful.

Wet Paint Illustrations
Originally from Devon, Helen now lives and works from a rather lovely SW London studio (from which she can witness squirrel fights in the park) and spends her time developing her decorative lettering styles, combining beautiful colour and clean lines to create a quirky and vibrant style. Her passion for her work is illustrated in everything she designs, creatures and characters burst into life in her colourful and gently humorous designs. Helen has worked on a number of projects for many high profile organisations and companies in the UK, Europe and beyond including John Lewis, Te Neues and the Tate. Her illustrations have also adorned an array of products over her career including t-shirts, porcelain mugs, greeting cards and stationery.Helen's beautiful limited edition prints are available through a variety of online retailers as well as her website http://www.wetpaint.org.uk/ and are perfect gifts which can adorn your home or workplace.

Liam Roberts
A Canadian in London who took up creative cartography as an alternative to browsing Stanfords in Covent Garden, I've been making original art from maps, as well as customised commissions, for a few years now. Fond of mixed media, illustration, and arboral representations we can use to squirrel our way across the city. One example, the Tree of Brixton Pubs and Cafés was displayed at the Museum of London as part of their Hand-Drawn London exhibit from April-September 2011.

Heart and Bloom
Aimee at Hart and Bloom makes colourful and cute vintage inspired jewellery, using vintage rhinestones and beads, worked in with modern elements such as Swarovski pearls and flowers.  Hart and Bloom style can best be described as English Eclectic, and with rockin’ charm necklaces, cheeky statement rings, earrings, bracelets and ladylike pearls aplenty, there’s something for everyone.

Leyla Cemal
Hi, I’m Leyla. Having worked as a fashion buyer for the past few years, I decided it was time to escape the office and do something more creative and hands-on.
I design jewellery I would want to wear myself; It is modern, angular and easy to wear, with added vintage elements. My favourite materials to use are brass, semi-precious stones and intricate vintage chains. My style is a little eclectic but hopefully it’s more fun that way.  I am at my happiest with a jewellery drill or saw in one hand and a cup of tea in the other.

Hunted and Stuffed

Hunted and Stuffed for hand-made silk scarf vintage cushions, hand-made upcycled tea towel vintage cushions, hand-made vintage fabric cushions from the 1950's 1960's. Unusual designs, beautifully made in London, UK. Bespoke commissions undertaken. Also hunted vintage retro objects for sale, hand picked objects of desire for the vintage (inspired) home.
Hi, My name is Ellie and I have always enjoyed being creative, making things and rummaging around markets and stores to find hidden gems for as long as I can remember. My mum taught me to knit and sew as a little girl and I've always enjoyed the feeling of producing something lovely at the end of a project. Later I studied Fine Art (Sculpture) at University and then found myself gravitating towards photography, working as a professional photographer in London for the last 10 years specializing in interiors.
Now I have just had a baby and find myself spending lots of time at home with him, we go out together to hunt for nice things amongst the clutter and put together vintage silks and fabrics to make unique cushions for the home. We would like to share the bits we hunt down and the bits we create with you and hope that you like them too.
All cushions are hand-made using vintage fabrics and whilst I endeavour to select the best they may by their nature show slight signs of their age or previous life. All fabrics are cleaned and for future care it is recommended to dry clean only.

Mr Wingate
Having once had aspirations to become an architect, designer Sam Wingate found himself at art school where he developed a love for printing textiles.  The architectural influence remained strong in Mr Wingate's work, where his illustrations of London buildings adorn prints, cushions and tea towels.
